The buzz around Drishyam 3 is everywhere right now. With the Malayalam original set to hit theatres on May 21, starring Mohanlal, all eyes have shifted to Ajay Devgn’s Hindi version, slated for an October 2 release. It’s the third and likely final chapter in this much-loved franchise. But this isn’t just another straight remake. Insiders say the team has made big changes to suit Indian audiences.
The move makes perfect sense when you look at the numbers. The first Hindi Drishyam back in 2015, directed by Nishikant Kamat, crossed ₹100 crore easily. Ajay’s portrayal of Vijay Salgaonkar turned him into a household name. Then came the 2022 sequel, which did even better at the box office. Fans simply can’t get enough of this smart, family-focused thriller. Panorama Studios saw the potential and grabbed the rights. For them, continuing the story feels like a safe bet with built-in demand.
What sets this version apart is the fresh approach. The producers, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak, have been open about it. They loved the original Malayalam script but felt it needed tweaks. “Ours leans more into a family thriller vibe,” Abhishek explained in a recent chat. The new screenplay, co-written with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh, adds extra layers of suspense and a completely different climax. This way, even if you’ve seen the South film, the Hindi one still surprises you.
Ajay Devgn’s personal connection to the role plays a huge part too. He has always spoken fondly of Vijay Salgaonkar, the ordinary man who outsmarts everyone to protect his family. Returning with Tabu as Meera Deshmukh and Shriya Saran as his wife keeps the core cast intact. That continuity builds trust with viewers. Shooting is already in full swing, and the studio’s confidence shows in how they’ve secured worldwide distribution rights.
At its heart, this remake is about smart evolution, not copying. The makers want to honour what worked before while giving Hindi audiences something that feels made just for them. Themes of family, deception and tough choices stay the same. But the tone and pace have been adjusted to hit closer to home.
As Drishyam 3 gears up for release, expectations are sky-high. Ajay Devgn seems ready to deliver one last memorable turn as Vijay Salgaonkar. If the past two films are anything to go by, this one could wrap up the franchise on a high note that lingers with fans for years.
